Workplace Safety Workshop – Sept. 7, 2023
Time: 8:30am-1:30pm, breakfast and lunch will be provided
Location: The Mass League JWH Training & Learning Center, 16 Brooks Street, Worcester, MA
Workshop description:
Aggressive and violent acts against healthcare workers continue to increase, especially following the stress experienced globally by the recent pandemic. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), healthcare workers are at high risk of violence all over the world, with between 8% and 38% of health workers reporting suffering physical violence at some point in their careers. Many more are threatened or exposed to verbal aggression. Although most violence is perpetrated by patients and visitors, in disaster and conflict situations healthcare workers may become the targets of collective or political violence. Categories of healthcare workers most at risk include nurses and other staff directly involved in patient care, reception and patient check-in teams, and security and safety staff.
According to 2022 data collected by Mass League’s Emergency Management Program, Workplace Violence was named as a top five (5) hazard for Massachusetts health centers in every region across the state. The Mass League developed this workshop as a response to growing concerns of workplace violence and requests for training in de-escalation and strategies to promote a safer health center environment for both employees and patients.
A detailed agenda will be posted as the event date approaches.
Target Audience:
Community health center personnel who have a direct role in emergency preparedness, planning and response, as well as key decision-making staff such as senior leadership, executive directors, operations managers, clinical managers, department managers, safety and security staff, and facility staff.
