Supporting Children and Families who are Grieving: Tools and Resources for Community Health Centers
One in 13 children in Massachusetts will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18—yet this number doesn’t include the many who grieve the loss of extended family members, friends, or others close to them. Grief is a critical but often overlooked issue in the lives of children and families, with significant implications for mental health, academic success, and long-term well-being. Health centers are instrumental in supporting and connecting these families with resources.
Led by The Children’s Room—a Massachusetts nonprofit specializing in grief support and education—this training will examine the social, emotional, and developmental impact of childhood bereavement, including its connection to social determinants of health. The session will include data, interactive activities, and strategies, as well as information on how to access resources, make referrals, and pursue additional training and consultation.
