Join us on June 20th from 12p-1p for lunch and learn session with Lawyers Clearinghouse.
Lawyers Clearinghouse is a Boston-based nonprofit that has been connecting both nonprofits and people in need with pro bono legal assistance for over 30 years. This session will cover 3 of their programs: Legal Clinic for the Homeless & Low-Income (Legal Clinic), CORI Sealing Clinic & Expungement Clinic, and our Tax Lien Foreclosure Clinic.
- The Legal Clinic for the Homeless and Low Income has provided free civil legal assistance since 1994, connecting clients—especially in housing or social security cases—with pro bono lawyers. While most referrals come from Boston/Suffolk County, statewide support is available. The clinic operates two monthly sessions: an in-person, first-come, first-served event rotating through Boston shelters and a waitlist-based Zoom session. Note: They do not handle bankruptcy, family law, immigration, labor/employment, malpractice, or personal injury cases.
- For those with Massachusetts criminal records, the CORI Sealing and Expungement Clinic (since 2019) offers pro bono help to seal or expunge eligible records. This fully waitlist-based, Zoom clinic provides full representation, with volunteer firms committing to represent eligible clients. Participants must have a valid MA driver’s license or state ID.
- The Tax Lien Clinic (launched in 2023) assists homeowners facing foreclosure due to unpaid property taxes or utility bills. Volunteer attorneys help clients navigate foreclosure, communicate with opposing counsel, and explore repayment solutions—critical for addressing rapidly growing debt.
